Our Mission

Shepherdstown Public Library Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that aims to establish and sustain a vibrant public library community where curiosity, lifelong learning, and knowledge are freely available to all. Our mission is to promote, fund, and support the Shepherdstown Public Library.

The Library We Support

The Shepherdstown Public Library (SPL) has been in existence since 1922.  It was started as a volunteer organization, and in 1972 it became a state-supported library. In July 2022, after many years of community effort it opened the doors to its beautiful new building.

The library currently has one full-time and four part-time librarians, and a part-time administrator. In September 2022, the library initiated a docent program to support library activities. There are 15 to 20 trained docents who provide approximately 25 hours per week of unpaid support.

SPL has been providing incredible services and numerous programs with something for everyone no matter what their age or background. The Foundation is proud to be able to support it.

Please take a look at the library's 2024 annual report to read about all it has done.
