RENEW THE JEFFERSON COUNTY SCHOOL EXCESS LEVY!!!
A “school excess levy” allows WV county Boards of Education to raise consistent funds for their school districts without issuing bonds. The Jefferson County School Excess Levy helps our public schools to maintain and improve instructional programs and the operation of school services, including by funding school libraries and librarians. The levy also helps to fund Shepherdstown Public Library books and programs, along with the other county public libraries, WVU Extension Services (including 4-H), Jefferson County Parks & Recreation, and school and community playgrounds. All levy funds stay local!
Don’t be misled by the word “excess;” the levy is not a tax rate increase. The levy on the ballot renews at the same level as the current levy. The levy has been in place for 78 years, but is currently scheduled to lapse on June 30, 2026. The levy renewal would start on July 1, 2026, and last until June 30, 2031. This election day, please continue to support the financial security of your public library and schools by casting your vote “For the Levy.”
